Get vocal with voice controlled home automation

Want to control your home automation system hands-free? Voice controlled home automation allows you to do just that.

There are only a couple options currently available:

  • Amazon Echo
  • Apple HomeKit


Amazon Echo

This smart speaker which plays music when asked, now integrates with your smart home devices. “Alexa,” the cloud-connected AI that powers Amazon Echo, turns things on and off with simple voice commands.

Syncs with WeMo, Philips Hue, SmartThings, Insteon, and Wink and also has a channel on IFTTT.


Apple HomeKit

Siri, Apple’s AI assistant, has voice-control power with HomeKit. You can control “Works with Apple HomeKit” smart home accessories by giving Siri voice commands.

Syncs with ConnectSense, Ecobee, Elgato, iDevices, iHome, Insteon, Lutron, Philips, and Schlage.

Athom Homey

A colorful, futuristic-looking sphere offers multilingual voice recognition which promises to control a wide range of smart home products. Still in the pre-order phase, and not available in the US or Canada yet.


CastleOS CastleHub

This smart hub runs off of Windows 10 and integrates with Microsoft Kinect for voice-control. Ships worldwide, but is in the pre-order phase.

Supports the following protocols: Z-wave, Universal Powerline Bus, WeMo, Nest, X10, Philips Hue, Sonos, TCP, Ecobee, Lightwave, and Insteon.


ivee Sleek

This connected alarm clock responds to voice commands so you can control smart devices like the Nest. ivee has a multi-room voice assistant, ivee Voice, available for pre-order.



Another clock version of voice controller, Mycroft is an open-source AI which syncs with smart devices and streaming services. Available for pre-order.
